A Shoulder to Die On is the free prequel novelette to the River Sutton Mysteries.
When Robin Pearce is invited to a girls’ weekend with her lil’ sister, Jenn, she pictures a junk food and chick flicks binge. Then she finds out they’ll be spending the weekend with three of Jenn’s friends from her sorority. Just when the weekend gets going, Robin finds herself in the ER. Why is she there, and who’s fault is it?
The River Sutton Mysteries are set in the fictional town of River Sutton, West Virginia, a very small, rural town (I use that word loosely) where high school football and pepperoni rolls are the hottest things going. At least, until there’s a killer to catch.
Praise for A Shoulder to Die On
For a while I actually forgot I was reading a mystery book but I was enjoying it just the same. Robin is such a relatable character and the others are pretty likable too even I don’t relate to them as much. Even before the mystery came into play the sweet story of love and friendship had me smiling and enjoying myself. The mystery just makes it even better since that is the genre I am most comfortable with. I really enjoyed this one and feel like this author has quite a talent. She could probably write just about any genre and be good at it but I’m glad she chose mystery because I might not have found her otherwise. – Jessica W. (Goodreads)
Usually a novelette falls short in character and story development. Ms. Basile’s book doesn’t fall into that trap. The characters are well rounded and believable, and the story develops at a good pace right through the surprising end. This was a fun read from beginning to end and I’m looking forward to reading more of her books. – Kris (Goodreads)
Yes, this is a chick flick, and honestly, I would not be found dead watching a chick flick movie, but this novel took me by surprise. We have a sorority party that the big sister gets invited to. Of course, it is all the inside jokes, and all the snide remarks about others, until one girl ends up in the ER, near death, and it has to be one of the other sorority sisters or does it. Time to put on our detective caps and see if we can follow the big sister on her mission to find the killer. I really enjoyed this novel and can’t wait to get into the next one. I received this novel from BookFunnel. This is my true and honest review. – PAR (Goodreads)
