I’m writing a new detective series that I’m publishing on Amazon’s Vella platform called The Case of the Strangled Student. Before we get into the technical stuff, some background.
I love thrillers and detective novels. When I set out to write Roadside Homicide, I thought I was writing something gritty. Turns out, not so much. ๐
Now that I have some experience, I wanted to write something a little more hardboiled.
Enter Vella
It’s the perfect platform for my detective series because I can release “episodes” on a regular schedule, much like old-fashioned radio shows were played weekly.
Each episode is between 1,000-1,500 words, so they’re quick reads. And each week, you can buy a new episode using tokens that you purchase.
I’ve already published five episodes (the first three are free) so let me tell you about it.
Synopsis: Whitney Chandler was on track to be valedictorian, beloved by her peers and the community. So why did she end up strangled to death at the bottom of an empty pool? Teens have secrets. So do small towns. To uncover the truth and find the killer, Detective Shelby Reed has to face her troubled past.
I’m having so much fun with The Case of the Strangled Student. I hope you’ll join me on this new journey.

New to Vella?
It’s easier to use than you think, if you have the Kindle app. If you don’t, here’s a terrific blog post on how to use Vella to read episodic stories from author Sara Watterson.
Be sure to leave comments on Vella after an episode, or take my polls on Vella to let me know what you think of the story. ๐
